LECTURES

Week 7

For our first project which is about a self-portrait, we learned about the definition of a self project and how there are many different ways in which we could express it.

Who am I?
We can define ourselves and get defined by others in a myriad of ways. As for instance, we might show different facets of ourselves depending on our surrounding like our family, our friends or even strangers. Moreover, we can also be influenced by the medias like celebrities, social media influencers, singers, actors, fictional characters and so on.

Questions to ask ourselves.
  • How do I see myself (physically and personality wise)
  • How others see me (physically and personality wise)
  • What are my interests?
  • What kind of experiences have I gone through up till now ?
  • What kind of thoughts do I have alone in the middle of the night?
Roughly, these are questions to help us define ourselves.

A self-portrait can be represented in many forms from a simple drawing to a complex sculpture. It is a visual depiction of ourself.

INSTRUCTIONS

Task 1

Week 7-Week 9 (Self-Portrait)

I don't think my selfies can express me. My selfies only express my appearance. Even if my appearance is not pretty, I will use Photoshop to make my photos look good. So the picture of me is not real.

Knowing that I saw this picture, I decided to use collage to restore the self I wanted to express.

I have long straight hair, my bangs are above my eyebrows, and I have a mole under my eye, and I've kept those features.

FEEDBACK

Week 9
General Feedback:Ms. JinChi found my ideas for self-portraits interesting and suggested I look at Analytical Cubism.

Specific Feedback:I looked at Analytical Cubism, which I found interesting and I wanted to apply to my self-portraits.

REFLACTIONS

Week 9
Experiences: I completed my self-portrait in exploration. I did not use traditional painting methods. I think my self-portrait this time is very novel

Observations:  I saw other students' designs, and I thought everyone had interesting ideas about their own self-portraits.

Findings: I find self-portraits are very subjective, people just want to express what they want to express.
