Task 1 : Mobile Application Proposal

Students are required to create a proposal documentation for their mobile application project. We are required to redesign an existing app that you find unsatisfactory in terms of the user experience or interface design and its subject to preliminary approval by the module coordinator. Students need to do surveys, interviews, market studies and research on the selected topic. The document should also include key features of their mobile application and provide clear flowchart of the app. The document will determine whether or not the mobile application idea is good to continue to the next development phase. This task is an iterative process whereby during the assignment period, students are free to get feedback from their peers and module coordinator to further refine their idea.

Choose an area within the theme of lifestyle that we wanted to focus on and propose three mobile applications that we had the intention to redesign. Rationalise the ideation and describe the background of the mobile applications.

I chose three apps:
-Food(EASI) -SIM card app(Digi) -Find a House (iProperty Malaysia)

Fig.1.1. First idea

At first, I analyzed the app iProperty Malaysia, but after reading it, Mr. Hamimi thought the app was good. I showed him the other two apps I chose and he thought they were both good. So I reselected the app topic.

Finally, with the consent of Mr. Hamimi, I chose a niche music app: MusiC.

INTRODUCTION:

MusiC is an app for listening to music. But compared with many other music apps, MusiC is an unremarkable app. This proposal analyzes the problems of this App in application design and how to improve these problems. The design of the application program is very important to the user experience. Having a good application program design can improve the user experience and efficiency.

BACKGROUND AND CONTEXT:

Fig.1.2. Interface of MusiC app

There are 5 main pages of the MusiC app, and the background color is black. There are many types of music on the main page, but there is no search button, which means that users cannot know where to search for the music they want to listen to when they open the app.

Fig.1.3. Interface of MusiC app

I learned from the Apple store that the number of users is currently only 390, with a score of 4.5. The listening interface of the MusiC app does not display the lyrics. If you add a design to display lyrics, you can improve the user experience.

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES:

I want to redesign 5 main pages. Set the functions frequently used by users as the main page, so that users can quickly learn how to use the app. Then group the secondary functions into different main pages. For example, I think it is possible to add a "My Homepage" page, which is a personal account, and personal information can be added. I want to put two pages "Favorites" and "Download" in "My Home".

Other designs: Put the search button in a prominent position, change the background color, and add a design to display lyrics in the listening interface.

USER RESEARCH:

I will collect user reviews of this app in the app store to study how satisfied users are with this app. And use an online questionnaire survey to collect user feedback, and organize the collected evaluation and data.
